When Your Business Feels Like It’s Falling Apart: Burnout, Reinvention, and Your Next-Level Expression
When Your Business Feels Like It’s Falling Apart: Burnout, Reinvention, and Your Next-Level Expression
If your business feels like it’s falling apart, you may not be failing.
You might be standing at the edge of your next evolution.
For soulful entrepreneurs, burnout in business isn’t just exhaustion—it’s often a signal. A threshold where what used to work no longer fits the person you’re becoming.
After 20+ years as an entrepreneur, I’ve reinvented my business more times than I can count. And every time, it led somewhere better.
But the middle? It’s messy.
It asks for patience. Trust. And the willingness to move forward without a clear plan.
The “Falling Apart” Moment: Signs of Burnout in Business
You built something meaningful.
And now… it feels heavy.
The passion isn’t gone—but it’s not easy anymore. Everything takes more energy. Less clarity. More effort than it should.
You might be wondering:
- Why does my business feel wrong all of a sudden?
- Did I outgrow this?
- Do I need to start over?
And underneath all of that?
A quiet sense that something isn’t aligned anymore.
You’re not falling apart. You’ve outgrown your business.

When Success Doesn’t Feel Like Freedom
There was a point where I was running two businesses—coaching and jewelry design—and on paper, everything was working.
I was making more money than I ever had.
And I was completely burned out.
Day-to-day, I was exhausted. Overworking. It felt like I didn’t have a choice anymore—which was ironic, because freedom was one of the main reasons I became an entrepreneur in the first place.
I remember thinking, “If this is success, I’m not sure I want it.”
The money wasn’t worth how I felt.
Then COVID forced a pause. And in that space—after about three months of stepping away—I could finally hear myself again.
What I realized was simple, but not easy:
This wasn’t failure. This was a clear message.
What I had built wasn’t sustainable for me anymore.
So I made a decision that didn’t make sense to a lot of people at the time—I started taking steps to sell my jewelry business.
And I did.
On the other side of that?
More freedom. More choice. More creativity.
The ability to listen to my body and rest when I need to.
Building income in a way that actually supports my life.
Trraveling full-time for the past two years.
But it started with something that felt like everything was falling apart.
When You Feel Lost, You Might Actually Be Free
This is something my mentor, Martha Beck, articulates in a way that completely reframes this moment:
“The moment you feel like, ‘I am completely out on a limb, this is insanity, I am lost,’ you may have just finally slipped the leash. You’re out of your conditioning. It feels so strange and alienating. But we have to go down the pathless path if we’re going to do something new. You’re not off track—you’re finally unmapped.”
And then she offers this shift:
“Instead of saying, ‘Am I falling apart?’ say, ‘Am I falling open?’”
Because when your business stops making logical sense…
When your old ways of working no longer fit…
When fear isn’t driving your decisions the way it used to…
Of course it feels unfamiliar.
Instead of, “I’m lost,”
What if it’s, “I’m free… and I don’t fully trust it yet.”
Why Clarity Feels So Hard Right Now
Here’s the truth most business advice skips:
You can’t solve burnout with better strategy.
Because burnout doesn’t come from doing too little.
It comes from doing too much of what no longer fits.
And until you understand what’s actually causing your burnout, everything you try will feel like a guess.
More effort. More confusion. Same stuck feeling.
This Is Where Things Start to Change
Before you rebuild your business…
You need clarity on what’s really going on underneath the burnout.
Because not all burnout is the same.
You might be:
- Overworking in a model that no longer supports your life
- Undercharging and overgiving
- Misaligned with your audience or offers
- Or simply ready for a completely new chapter
And each of these has a different path forward.
