One of my favorite tools for balance, vitality, and sanity

bird balancing with lotus flowerOne of my favorite tools for balance has made me feel like a miracle has occurred. For the past few months, I’ve been practicing qi gong (or “energy work”) a few times a week, and it has absolutely been keeping me sane. As a busy entrepreneur, finding time to care for myself has always been a challenge, but this practice has been life-changing.

I’ve been trying to create a regular movement practice for what feels like forever, and now one has finally stuck! Qi gong’s mix of breathwork, gentle movement, and energy flow is exactly what I need to feel calm, focused, and creative. It may even be the first form of exercise I actually crave after going just two days without it!

What I love most is that it’s simple, energizing, and forgiving. Even if I’m low on energy, I can still show up and feel better afterward. Unlike high-intensity workouts, qi gong doesn’t demand a strict schedule. It’s truly a gift of flexibility and balance for my busy life. And honestly, that’s what I need most—practices that work with my lifestyle, not against it.

If you’re curious, there are so many great qi gong videos on YouTube to explore. (Here are a few of my favorites!) One of my teachers, Steven Washington, offers a wonderful five-day course called “5 Days to Peace,” which is perfect for beginners.

I’d love to hear if you try qi gong as one of your tools for balance or if you find any great videos or teachers to share! Let’s build a community of balance together.

Warmly,

P.S. Qi gong is not just about physical and energetic movement, it’s also philosophical. Here’s a random quote Steven Washington said in one session, “Focus on your exhale, and the inhale with naturally happen.”
